At the edge of the world, this craft beer outpost has earned a devoted following thanks to its inventive brews, often made with local ingredients.
Located in the charming and walkable Cow Bay neighbourhood north of downtown Prince Rupert, Wheelhouse Brewing has won over locals with its impressively creative brews. The tasting room is rustic and cosy, with semaphore flags and fishing floats hanging from the wooden rafters, and all manner of amusing graffiti covering the long communal tables. The atmosphere is jovial and unpretentious, with live music acts performing on the weekends.
While the bestseller is the Gillnetter Golden Ale, locals are warming up to hoppier beers like the tropical Kazu Maru IPA, a lovely light-bodied, citrus fruit-forward East Coast-ish IPA brewed with Idaho 7, Mosaic and Summit hops.
Fun Fact
Wheelhouse’s Smokehouse Kolsch uses malt that was smoked in a traditional First Nations smokehouse.
