Locality Brewing

Locality Brewing sits on a 96-acre family farm in Langley, where Melanie – one of the founders  grew up and where her family has spent decades finding new ways to keep the land working. What was once a dairy farm has also been home to horses, crops and film sets. Today, the old dairy barn and tool shed has become a gathering place and the surrounding fields help supply our Métis-owned farm brewery.

This field-to-glass story began with one acre of barley and a question: could they grow malting barley right here on the farm? When it came time to harvest, they had no equipment, so they reached out to Wally at the BC Farm Museum. With help from the museum and their community, they hand-scythed that first acre and used a 1930s threshing machine to separate the grain. It was hard, wonderfully impractical work—but it brought people together and showed us what this farm brewery could become.

Today, malt and hops are grown and malted here and from other local BC farms, along with our wheat, rye, wildflower honey and seasonal ingredients used in select beers. When you visit, you can walk past the hop yard, a movie set cave and lagoon before settling in with a beer made in the place where much of it began. Locality is an invitation to slow down, watch the eagles in the trees, the kingfisher’s fishing and dragonflies flying around the lagoon. Spend time on a working farm and connect with the land, people and work behind what is in your glass.
