Vancouver
Island Brewing

EST. 1984 | Victoria

Part of a trio of breweries that kicked off the craft beer revolution in BC in 1984, VI Brewing is still going strong today.

Vancouver Island Brewing opened as Island Pacific Brewing in 1984, the same year Granville Island Brewing and Spinnakers Brewpub began operating. The brewery’s original location was in Saanichton, about half an hour north of Victoria, but in 1991 the name changed to Vancouver Island Brewing, and a few years later it moved to its current downtown location on Government Street. VI Brewing has been a local leader with a strong following throughout Vancouver Island for a long time now. A recent ownership change, renovations to the facility, and a contemporary rebranding is helping introduce the brewery to a  new and younger audience, too. Stop by for a tour and tasting.

Fun Fact:

Vancouver Island Brewing has been producing a very special and unique beer called Hermannator for more than 25 years. It is a German-style Eisbock, which uses a freeze-distillation process to produce an alcohol level of 9.5% ABV. The style is one that ages well, so it can be put away (cellared) for several months or even years. Hermannator won Best in Show at the 2013 BC Beer Awards.
