Monkeys are considered lucky and clever in Chinese culture, so when this brewpub underwent an ownership change recently, the new name was a no-brainer, especially since it pairs perfectly with Lucky 9 Lanes, the attached bowling alley. This facility has been around for a while, first known as Big River Brewing and then later as Be Right Back Brewing. The newest version has been refreshed considerably — the brewer brings creativity and ingenuity from his home-brewing days, the chef supports the beer with delicious dishes, and events like summer pig roasts are turning Monkey 9 into a destination again.
Fun Fact
If you think the idea of a brewery being connected to a bowling alley is unique, you might be surprised to hear that British Columbia is home to two such places: this one and Freddy’s Brewpub in Kelowna. On top of that, BNA Brewing (also in Kelowna) has built a bowling alley into the upper floor of its restaurant. Apparently, bowling and craft beer is a real thing here on the BC Ale Trail.
