Victoria Beer Week Celebrates “5 Years of Cheers”
featuring 13 events during 9-day festival of BC craft beer March 2-10, 2018

February 27, 2018: Victoria Beer Week returns for its fifth year March 2-10, 2018. Since 2014, when about 1,200 people attended a variety of events during the inaugural festival, Victoria Beer Week has grown considerably: in 2018 more than 3,000 people are expected to attend 13 events held over 9 days at five different venues. Over 50 breweries from throughout British Columbia will be in attendance showcasing over 120 unique beers. While events are selling out quickly tickets are still available for most of them. The 2018 festival represents a mix of popular events from past years along with some bold new twists. With events featuring craft beer from breweries throughout the province, there is something for every type of beer drinker, from someone who is just discovering craft beer to “beer geeks” who want to know everything about it — and every type of person in between. Want to learn more about making craft beer? Attend Beer School where drinking beer is part of the class. Curious about sour beers? Try All About the Wood, which features a wide range of barrel-aged beers. Fish and seafood with beer?  The catch is guaranteed at Fishing for Beer, which features a crab boil.

Focus on Local

With breweries in attendance from across the province, we still like to highlight what is new in our own backyard. This year, Victoria Beer Week includes a field trip: the Sooke Beer Run includes return transportation to Sooke with stops at Sooke Oceanside Brewery, Sooke Brewing and Bad Dog Brewing. Discover how each brewery is building its own unique flavour profile from the brewmaster while tasting their beers.

Launching with Lift Off!

We will launch VBW2018 on Friday, March 2 with Lift Off!, a popular event from past years that is moving indoors to the Victoria Public Market. It features 13 brand new beers from some of BC’s best craft breweries, including the newest, Duncan’s Small Block Brewing, which hasn’t even officially opened yet! None of these beers have been poured anywhere else so this is an exciting opportunity for beer lovers to try something new. There will also be a pop-up liquor store on-site selling packaged versions of these beers for attendees to take home afterwards.

Beer and Food Go Great Together

Most events at Victoria Beer Week feature food prominently, including Fishing for Beer;
Taco Tuesday; Beer, Cheese, More Beer; and the Brewmaster’s Brunch. Also, many of the vendors at the Victoria Public Market will be serving special items during events held there.

Hoppy Birthday to Us

We close out Victoria Beer Week on Saturday, March 10 with a special party called Hoppy Birthday. We are inviting attendees to break out their tuxes and prom dresses, wedding suits
and bridesmaid’s gowns, or kilts and cotillion frocks, to join us for a dressed-up celebration of Victoria’s beer scene at the Victoria Public Market. Local up-and-coming jazz vocalist Susannah Adams will be performing live with her trio, and attendees will receive a unique commemorative glass to take home with them. This all-inclusive event isn’t just about “hoppy” beers — all types of beer will be served, along with cider and even wine.
